Increased sweating and unpleasant-smelling sweat in the armpit area are common conditions.

MSc.BSc.CKI Tran Nguyen Anh Thu, specialist in Dermatology – Skin Aesthetics, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said the cause of this condition is due to overactive sweat glands under the skin.

Under the skin there are two types of sweat glands: eccrine and apocrine.

Meanwhile, the apocrine gland secretes an oily, odorless and sterile fluid when first secreted on the surface of the skin. Because the quantity is small, it is often undetectable.

Eccrine sweat glands are distributed throughout the body and are active right from birth.

According to Dr. Thu, there are many methods to treat increased sweating in the underarm area.

The doctor uses a handheld device capable of creating microwaves that move across the surface of the skin in the armpit area.

Microwave acts relatively selectively on water-rich sweat glands, with less absorption in the subcutaneous layer.

Sweat glands are permanently pyrolyzed and cannot be restored, helping to overcome the problem of increased sweating, contributing to reducing body odor.

Other therapies depend on the patient’s constitution, but microwave treatment is applicable to many people over 18 years old.

Microwave energy is 80-90% effective in treating underarm sweating.

Loss of sweat glands in the armpit area does not affect the body’s natural ability to sweat.

After completing treatment, the patient can go home immediately.

According to Dr. Thu, although this method is safe and highly effective, it still has certain risks.
