US President Obama sat down to eat bun cha with chef Bourdain in Hanoi.

Even CNN, which airs Mr. Bourdain’s culinary show `Parts Unknown,` had no idea the president would appear.

`We’ve been talking about this for almost a year. It’s been very, very structured,` Mr. Bourdain told Politico.

The public only learned about the dinner between Mr. Bourdain and Mr. Obama when White House press reporters gathered on the street in front of a bun cha restaurant in Hanoi.

Inviting Mr. Bourdain to eat with Mr. Obama was the White House’s idea and it took them more than a year to prepare.

Not only is he a chef and host, Bourdain is also a well-known writer and television star.

Photos of his and President Obama’s dinner are expected to be broadcast in the opening episode of the 8th season of `Parts Unknown` on September 25.
