This comment was made by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong at the National Online Conference on the situation and urgent solutions to prevent and control Covid-19 chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Hanoi bridgehead, on the morning of May 29.

Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong reported at the meeting, morning of May 29.

Currently, the city recorded 2 cases working in two large industrial parks: Tan Binh Industrial Park and Northwest Cu Chi Industrial Park.

`This shows the risk of the epidemic spreading from the residential community into the industrial park or vice versa through workers. The crowded working and living environment in the industrial park is a condition for the epidemic to spread quickly to the community.`

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 17 export processing zones and industrial parks, 1,500 operating businesses with 280,000 workers, and 3,000 foreign experts.

On May 24, the head of the city government requested the Management Board of Industrial Parks and Export Processing Zones (Hepza) to coordinate with local authorities and medical facilities to research and adjust the working hours of businesses.

The Chairman of the City People’s Committee assigned Hepza and businesses to organize situational exercises and implement measures to prepare for epidemic response at businesses and production facilities.

Workers of Furukawa Automotive Parts Viet Nam Co., Ltd. (Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, District 7) were sampled for screening on May 18.

At a working session with the Prime Minister this morning, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee said that Covid-19 in the city has two super infectious strains in the world: the British B.1.1.7 and the Indian B.1.617 strains.

`The disease has appeared sporadically in more than 50% of the city’s districts. With the characteristics of the virus strain spreading quickly and strongly, the risk of the epidemic continuing to spread in the city is very high, due to the level of people traveling.

Assessing the characteristics of the epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Phong said that 55% of patients were infected from religious activities;

`Except for infection from a religious organization, the risk of infection in the workplace is quite high. Notably, the spread is in office buildings, which are often closed environments, using central air conditioning.

The Chairman of the City People’s Committee cited the fact that `patient 6269` had infected 3 people working at the same company and one person working at a different company but in the same building at 30 Dang Van Ngu.

Regarding disease manifestations, all four recent outbreaks were discovered through screening patients visiting medical facilities;
