`I started testing myself for Covid-19 at home about two months ago,` LiLy Vu, a Vietnamese living in Leeds, Yorkshire, about 270 km north of London, shared with VnExpress.

Because she is pregnant, she is recommended to be tested twice a week even though she has received two doses of the Moderna vaccine.

A Covid-19 self-test kit in the UK gave negative results.

Lily said the British government encourages people to test themselves at home and distribute free test kits at pharmacies, supermarkets or through online orders.

`I often order online. Each time I order a box of 7 kits, 24 hours apart. Delivery time is only 1-2 days. Everything is very fast, convenient and completely free,`

Each at-home Covid-19 test kit includes two main components: sample collection strip and result reading tool.

Lily shared that compared to testing at the center, self-testing at home is much faster and more convenient.

In addition, she said testing centers in the UK are also operated very methodically.

Britain officially lifted the final Covid-19 restrictions on July 19 and chose to live with the pandemic.

However, the number of deaths has decreased sharply compared to previous epidemics and many experts believe that this is due to the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Although the vaccination rate in the UK is relatively high, Oanh Nguyen, a Vietnamese in Northampton, nearly 100 km from London, is still worried when he sees many people no longer wearing masks.

`Now when I go to the supermarket, only about 50% of customers wear masks. This makes me quite worried,` she said.

Oanh said she also tests for Covid-19 at home twice a week due to work requirements.

According to instructions from British health authorities, when a person takes a rapid test at home and has a positive result, they need to immediately self-isolate, then order a PCR test kit to take home or make an appointment at a health center.

Those who order a home PCR test kit will receive a sample collection strip and a specialized biological container.

If the PCR test result is positive, they will continue to self-isolate for 10 days at home according to the guidance and supervision of British health authorities.

Oanh added that this rapid at-home test result is currently only valid in the UK.

`I don’t really trust the results of rapid tests at home, however, regularly testing also makes me feel more secure,` she said.
