National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that it is necessary to review and correct errors in the Cai Lay BOT project.

On the afternoon of December 5, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the National Assembly Delegation, electoral unit No. 1 of Can Tho City had a meeting with voters in Phong Dien district.

Voters expressed many opinions and recommendations related to many issues that are of concern to people such as: unreasonable fees in BOT traffic projects, inadequacies in medical examination and treatment, health insurance, and reform.

In particular, voter Trang Huu Thu frankly mentioned the inadequacies at the Cai Lay BOT toll station that public opinion has reacted strongly to recently.

Responding to voters’ opinions on this issue, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed that attracting BOT investment is a correct policy under limited budget conditions.

However, the head of the National Assembly also stated clearly: `In implementing the policy of calling for BOT investment, there are some projects that are not done correctly, and there are errors in where to place toll stations and what toll rates are.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasized that the National Assembly will continue the National Assembly Standing Committee’s supervision program for BOT projects, in order to rectify activities in this field and prevent incidents from occurring.

The issue at Cai Lay toll station is of concern to many Can Tho voters.

The Cai Lay toll station is part of the BOT project to bypass Cai Lay town and maintain and enhance the surface of National Highway 1, which was started in 2014. The toll station opened on August 1.

On the morning of November 30, the toll booth returned.

On the evening of December 4, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc decided to temporarily suspend toll collection on the Cai Lay bypass for one to two months so that the Ministry of Transport and relevant ministries and branches can continue to clarify all issues and propose solutions.
