NYTimes on June 29, citing information from two unnamed officials, said that US President Donald Trump received a written intelligence report in early February, including information that Russia offered a reward to Taliban rebels to defeat the Taliban.

The information was released by NYTimes just one day after Trump posted on Twitter, asserting that `no one reported or told me, Vice President Pence or White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows about the so-called attack on the military.`

The US President called on NYTimes to clearly state the anonymous source providing information to the newspaper.

CNN also cited information from an anonymous official confirming that Trump was briefed in writing about the incident, but said this intelligence report was issued `in the spring`, but did not specify the specific time.

The New York Times on June 26, citing information from unnamed US intelligence officials, said that Russian spies had offered bounties to Taliban rebels to encourage the rebels to attack US-led coalition soldiers in Afghanistan.

The White House, the US Director of National Intelligence and the Russian Foreign Ministry all denied the information.

Trump is said to not regularly read daily reports provided by US intelligence agencies, but mainly receives information through the media and cable television.

The US recently accused Russia of quietly providing light weapons to the Taliban.

According to the newspaper, the Taliban’s activities were led by the Russian Military Intelligence Agency (GRU).

US intelligence also concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election in an effort to support Trump, including manipulating social networks.
