Population density in the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City (Districts 7, 8 and Nha Be District) is currently increasing dozens of times compared to 10 years ago.

Therefore, among the 12 projects (total capital of 66,000 billion VND) that the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee recently proposed to the Prime Minister for urgent implementation, there are 3 projects to `rescue` congestion in this area.

Kenh Te Bridge (connecting Districts 4 and 7) is often congested, especially during rush hours.

More than 9,400 billion to open roads connecting districts 4, 7 and Nha Be.

The most expected is the project to open a road connecting these 3 districts to complete the North – South traffic axis with a total investment of about 9,430 billion VND.

The project is divided into 2 parts.

The remaining part will be from the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho to the intersection of Ba Chiem bridge (connecting district 7 with Nha Be) 7.5 km long, scale 8-10 with a total investment of about 4,000 billion VND.

In a report sent to the Government, the Ho Chi Minh City government said that urban residential areas in Nha Be, District 7 are developing very quickly – especially Hiep Phuoc port urban area.

In addition to reducing congestion, the bridge with an investment of more than VND 5,200 billion is also expected to promote socio-economic development for the southern part of the city.

More than 2.1 km long, 10 m clearance, the cable-stayed bridge includes the main part connecting districts 2 and 7 (6 lanes).

Ho Chi Minh City identifies this as an `urgent project that requires investment priority` because it completes the regional transportation system.

When Thu Thiem 4 bridge is completed, it will also relieve traffic pressure from Binh Thanh district, Thu Duc district through districts 7, 8, Binh Chanh and Nha Be districts (Thu Thiem 1 bridge – North-South backbone in the Urban Area).

Nguyen Khoai – road connecting Saigon South area with the center

Expected to start construction this year with a total cost of about 1,250 billion VND, one kilometer long Nguyen Khoai street will connect the South Saigon area with the city center and share the load for Kenh Te bridge.

The project also includes the construction of a bridge 346 m long, 22.5 m wide – starting from D1 street in Him Lam residential area (district 7) and ending at Ben Van Don street (district 4).

In addition to the above three key projects, Ho Chi Minh City is also researching a series of other plans to reduce traffic congestion in the South;
